halsman's jump

Back in the 1950s, photographer Phillipe Hallsman invented his very own, tounge in cheek Rorsach test. At the end of each potrait sitting he did, after all the serious shots were taken, Hallsman asked his subjects to jump for the camera. Ok, so the whole jump thing has been a little overdone of late (I'm looking at you, Toyota), but there is nonetheless something delicious about seeing historical figures cast aside their inhibitions, and quite literally jump for joy.

from the top: Audrey Hepburn, The Windsors, Salvador Dali, Eva Marie Saint, Richard Nixon, Marilyn Monroe, Robert Oppenheimer, Grace Kelly and Dick Clark.
